A Message from the Medicine Hat Police Service Chaplain
Mr. Bob McGougan
Hi, I am Bob McGougan and I am looking forward to serving Medicine Hat Police Service as their newly appointed Chaplain. My wife, Judy, and I have been married for 37 years and are the parents of two children and four grandchildren. With Donna, Kevin, Nicholas and Owen in Edmonton and John, Karrena, Kassandra and Kali in Grande Prairie, it is Tour Alberta when we visit family.
I have been a resident of Medicine Hat since September 1975. I originally came to the Hat from Vancouver via Prince George, B.C. to apply my trade as a plumber/pipe fitter in the construction of the CFI anhydrous ammonia plants. During the 1970’s, I worked on various construction sites in B.C., Alberta and Saskatchewan. Presently, I am on staff at Hillcrest Church as Pastor of Personal Care and External Ministries.
Through a number of ride-a-longs over the past few years, I have gained a greater understanding of and deeper appreciation for the responsibilities of a police officer. So, when the opportunity to apply for the position as Chaplain came available, I had a very clear and strong prompting from God to do so. I am honoured to have been chosen as the new Chaplain.
As Police Chaplain, I believe, I act as a spiritual/emotional Medic. I am here to provide spiritual/emotional support and encouragement for members of the MHPS (both sworn and civilian). There are times along the journey of life when we can experience some emotional bumps and bruises. Times when some outside help, like a listening ear from your Chaplain, may provide the encouragement needed to carry on.
