Inspector Rick Wigle joined the Medicine Hat Police Service in 1987 after serving for five years with the Correctional Services of Canada as a Living Unit Officer, stationed at the Drumheller Institution. His work with Correctional Services provided Rick with a unique and varied perspective entering into policing.
Since joining the Medicine Hat Police Service, Inspector Wigle has worked in a variety of areas including: Patrols, Communications, Drug Enforcement, Criminal Intelligence, and Professional Standards.
Committed to life-long learning, Inspector Wigle was the first member of the Service to enter the Executive Development in Policing Program offered by the Canadian Police College in Ottawa. He graduated from the program in October 2006 and was the recipient of the “Strategic Change Project Award.”
Promoted in 2008, Inspector Wigle works collaboratively with the other members of the Executive Team, community partners and other leaders within the organization to ensure: the execution of the strategic plan; financial stewardship of public money and effective and efficient service to the community. As the Inspector in charge of Operations, his responsibilities include providing leadership to the Patrol teams, Community Safety Unit, Traffic Unit, Photo Radar Unit, the Municipal Bylaw Unit and the Canine Unit.
Inspector Wigle believes “The test of police efficiency is the absence of crime and disorder, not the visible evidence of police action in dealing with it.”, as stated by the father of modern policing, Sir Robert Peel.
Glen Motz
Inspector, Support Services

Glen Motz has been a member of the Medicine Hat Police Service since November 1980, serving in a variety of capacities and sections. Glen has the current assignment of providing leadership to Support Services Division.
As a member of the Police Service Executive Team, Inspector Motz contributes to the overall leadership and direction of the Service. His responsibilities include providing guidance and oversight to the Major Crimes Section, Organized Crime Section, Community Safety Unit, Traffic Unit, Forensic Identification Unit and the Victim Services Unit. Glen believes that maintaining effective relationships assists in ensuring the continuous improvement of the Service.
Inspector Motz is dedicated to his community, both as a Police Officer and as a citizen. A commitment to faith, friends and family, especially his grandchildren, provide fulfillment to life.
Murray Morton
Inspector, Operational Services

Before joining the Medicine Hat Police Service in 1980, Murray Morton attended the Lethbridge Community College Law Enforcement Program. He served in various units within the Service including: Patrols, K-9, Crime Prevention (School Resource Officer) and Criminal Investigations. Murray was promoted to sergeant in 1997 and spent two years investigating major crimes. He was then transferred to Patrols to provide leadership to frontline officers.
In 2001, Murray was promoted to the rank of Inspector. As a member of the Executive team Murray’s responsibilities were Operations, Support and Administrative Services. In 2005, Murray completed the Advanced Police Leadership program through Dalhousie University.
From 2008 to 2009, Inspector Morton was seconded to the Alberta Solicitor General and Minister of Public Security to work on the Alberta Police Integrated Information Initiative (API3). Murray worked with the Project Office and other seconded leads from Calgary Police Service, Edmonton Police Service, Lethbridge Regional Police Service, RCMP and the Alberta Sheriffs. Collectively they defined the requirements for a provincial police records management system.
Presently Inspector Morton is in charge of Operational Services.
Murray was a DARE instructor for ten years, teaching over 500 grade six students to say no to drugs. He coached Junior B hockey and still volunteers with the Royal Canadian Air Cadets Squadron as a civilian officer.
