With school back so are our School Resource Officers. This will be the second year of our full time School Resource Officer Program. Last year the Medicine Hat Police Service embarked on a joint venture with the Medicine Hat School District No 76 by placing two constables full time in the schools creating a school community partnership. These two members became part of the school community, providing lectures, ready to answer questions from students, staff and parents. After a successful first year we are pleased that the School Officer Program will be expanding to include the Medicine Hat Catholic Schools.
Constable Sandy Mahon is the School Resource Officer for Medicine Hat High School and Alexandra Junior High School,
Constable Byron Witkowski is the School Resource Officer for Crescent Heights High School and YMCA Stay in School, and
Constable Gordon Stull is the School Resource Officer for McCoy High School and St. Mary’s Junior High School, and Notre Dame.
These Officers will also be responsible for calls and visits to their Elementary feeder Schools.
They will also be assisted by other D.A.R.E. Officers who will be teaching D.A.R.E. in some of their schools and by the supervisor of the Crime Prevention Unit.
-
Provide a visible presence in the school, feeder schools and the community.

-
As a School Resource Officer it also provides an opportunity to be a part time educator, crime prevention practitioner and public relations liaison.
-
As School Resource Officers look forward to another successful year they will be seeking your support and feedback.
