The Medicine Hat Police Service, in cooperation with citizens and other agencies of Medicine Hat, is an integral part in preserving the quality of life in the community.

The Police are dedicated philosophically and operationally to the preservation of positive social interaction, the preservation of peace and the prevention of crime. Our primary role is provision of quality service through prevention and the maintenance of peace and safety. Our most effective tools are community support, education and the most efficient use of Police and Community Resources.

The long-range objectives of the Police Service are:

• To demonstrate that the true measure of Police effectiveness is the absence of crime and disorder, not the visible evidence of Police in dealing with it.
• To promote the concept of policing of the people for the people, by offering service and understanding to all of society regardless of race, sex, religion, or social standing.
• To maximize the collective skills of the Police Service towards quality preventive, investigative and enforcement services.
• To use only the minimum application of force on any particular occasion and only when persuasion, advice and warnings are found to be insufficient to deter individuals who show disrespect for society and it's legislation.
• To develop procedures that maximize and enhance the potential of individual members of the Service.
• To develop long-range policies and procedures that make most efficient use of all resources available to the Police.
