Further to previous media release....

The driver of the truck was formally charged overnight, Collins BROPHY, age 20 years, of Medicine Hat is scheduled to appear this morning in provincial court.

July 6, 2004 at approx 2:15 pm, police observed a stolen Chev truck being operated in the area of Southview Drive S.E. Stolen vehicle was followed by unmarked police vehicle behind the Co-op Mall on 13th Ave S.E. The police approached the three occupants of the stopped stolen vehicle, at which time the driver of the stolen vehicle accerated to escape. A single bullet was discharged from police service pistol at the rear tire which caused the rear tire to deflate. The stolen vehicle proceeded onto 13th Ave S.E. and shortly after marked partol units took up pursuit. The pursuit ended near 8th Street and 1st Ave S.E., when police vehicles ended the pursuit by forcing the stolen truck to a stop. The 20 yr old male driver and the two 15 & 6 yr old female passengers were arrested without incident. Two police vehicles were damaged
in the incident, along with damage to the stolen truck.

The two female occupants have been released to appear in court on August 9/04 charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000.00 (truck) and other unrelated offences..

The 20 yr old male driver will be formally charged later this date with
- dangerous driving
- evade police
- possession of stolen property over $ 5,000.00 (truck)
