SHORTLY AFTER 7:15 PM ON 2004 AUGUST 10, OFFICERS OF THE MEDICINE HAT POLICE SERVICE ATTENDED THE MEDICINE HAT MALL IN REGARDS TO A THEFT COMPLAINT FROM THE SEARS CANADA STORE.

THE TWO MALES THAT HAD FLED FROM SEARS WERE APPREHENDED AND ARE BEING HELD UNTIL COURT ON 2004 AUGUST 12 AT 9:30 AM.

THESE MALES HAD BEEN STOPPED OUTSIDE THE STORE BY SEARS EMPLOYEES REGARDING A THEFT AND THEN BECAME INVOLVED IN AN ALTERCATION WITH THEM.

MARC ANDRE GUERTIN, AGE 20, AND JONATHAN DURANCEAU, AGE 19 FROM QUEBEC ARE PRESENTLY HAD BEEN ORIGINALLY CHARGED WITH ROBBERY AND POSSESSION OF BREAK-IN
TOOLS BUT THESE CHARGES WILL BE AMMENDED TO THE FOLLOWING:

- 266 CC, ASSAULT

On August 10th MHPS responded to a robbery at the Sears store in the Medicine Hat Mall. Upon arrival Police apprehended one twenty year old male and one nineteen year old male from Montreal for robbery. Through investigation it was learned that both males were in Sears stealing merchandise. When the males
attempted to leave the store they were confronted by Sears employees. This lead to a physical altercation with the males assaulting two store employees which assisted in their escape from the store. Further investigation revealed both males to be in possession of break in tools which they were subsequently charged with. The two have been identified as Marc Guertin and Jonathon Duranceau. They will be appearing in Court Thursday August 12/04.
