Cougar sighting in Strathcona Park

On July 11, 2008 at approx 11:30 am the Medicine Hat Police Service and Community Peace Officers responded to a complaint of a possible cougar sighting in Strathcona Park. The cougar was reportedly seen in the southern tip of the Strathcona trail system. Responding members checked the area and from a distance, briefly observed what appeared to be 2 cougars near the main roadway before they re-entered the bush. Local Fish & Wildlife has been advised and will be conducting their own investigation to determine if there is any immediate danger to the public. Any questions or concerns should be directed to their office. After consulation with Fish & Wildlife there was no immediate danger to the public or any reason to close the park at this time.
