August 17 - 23 - Parking Offenses
Parking in the City of Medicine Hat is regulated by both City of Medicine Hat
Bylaws and the Traffic Safety Act of Alberta. It is prohibited to park:
- On a sidewalk or boulevard
- On or within 5 metres of a crosswalk
- Within 5 metres of a stop, yield sign or fire hydrant
- On the roadside of another vehicle parked at the curb or edge of a roadway
- An unattended vehicle on a jack
- More than 500 mm from the right curb or edge of roadway (wrong side of
road)
- In a manner that takes up more than one marked stall
Parking ticket fines range from $50.00 to $500.00. There are some fines for
offenses under City of Medicine Hat Bylaw 2434 which are reducible for prompt
payment. Fines for parking in a Handicapped zone, parking on private
property, obstruction of another vehicle or fines under the Traffic Safety
Actor its Regulations are not reducible.
The most common types of parking offenses in Medicine Hat are:
- Parking where signs prohibit
- Parking on the wrong side of a roadway
- Over time parking
The most dangerous parking offense is parking on the wrong side of a roadway.
The message "For Everyone's Safety - Obey All Parking Laws" will be displayed
by the MHPS safety messaging trailer between August 17th and 23rd.
