Early on September 25, 2009, after a two (2) month investigation, the Medicine Hat Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU) and Medicine Hat Integrated Intelligence Unit (MHIIU), with assistance from the RCMP Emergency Response Team, the Brooks and Redcliff RCMP detachments and the Calgary Police Service, executed two search warrants.

One search warrant was executed on a Calgary residential property where three (3) people were arrested. Two Calgary residents, a male and female are facing various CDSA charges. A third male from Vancouver is in custody awaiting a bail hearing. Seized from this residence were numerous marihuana plant clones and cash.

The second warrant was executed on a rural property located approximately 1hour northeast of Medicine Hat. At this property, Police found an extremely large and sophisticated grow operation with cannabis marihuana plants at various stages of growth. A male and female, both from Calgary, have been arrested at this location and are awaiting bail hearings. Police are currently in the midst of processing the scene and gathering evidence before they begin to dismantle the operation.

Due to the size of the grow operation and the scope of the investigation, Police are not able to provide further details on the quantity or value of items seized at this time. It is anticipated however, that another news conference will be held next week where more information will be made available, including the identity of those arrested.

The Medicine Hat CFSEU and MHIIU units are integrated police teams made up of investigators from the Medicine Hat Police Service and the RCMP. Both units are part of the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT), an umbrella organization established by the Solicitor General and Public Security to bring together Alberta's most sophisticated law enforcement resources to strategically tackle serious and organized crime.
