On Sunday morning Octoer 25, 2009 at about 100AM police pulled over a vehicle
in the area of 20 St NE and 11 Ave NE. As the officer aproached the vehicle
the driver accellerated away. The officer pursued the vehicle a short distance
away where it pulled into a court. The male driver tried to flee the scene and
the officer arrested the accused. The male resisted the officer and an
altercation ensued during which the accused male tried to choke the arresting
officer. The male got away from the officer and began to flee down thestreet
when he was taken into custody by other police units responding to the scene.
Both the male and police officer suffered minor injuries.
A 29 year old local man now faces charges of impaired driving, exceeding .08,
dangerous driving, evading police, assaulting peace officer, choking
with intent to overcome resistance to offence and escape lawful custody.
He will be in court to answer to these charges on November 26, 2009.
