November 3, 2009 - MHPS Hosts Family Violence and Stalking Training.
Community agencies dealing with family and domestic violence have come
together today in Medicine Hat to participate in a one day training session.
Approximately 50 participants, including members from the Medicine Hat Police
Service, Child and Youth Services, Crown Prosecutor office, Mental Health,
Probation, John Howard Society and Victim Services are in attendance.
Training will be provided on issues surrounding the successful investigation
and prosecution of family violence files as well as a general understanding
of the dynamics of family violence and stalking. The training is being
provided by members of the Integrated Threat and Risk Assessment Centre
(I-TRAC), including Director Val Campbell. Ms. Campbell provides a wealth of
expertise as a former prosecutor with a background in domestic violence. Chief
Andy McGrogan says that "we are extremely fortunate to have Val Campbell
attend and provide the training to our staff. Val has worked for many years to
position Alberta as one of the most prepared Provinces in the country to
dealwith this issue."
November is Family Violence Prevention Month in Alberta. The Medicine Hat
Police Service recognizes the impact of family and domestic violence on our
society and are committed to supporting a collaborative approach to dealing
with this important social issue.
The training is occurring at the Hockey Hounds Recreation Centre located
on10th Street NE. Members of the media interested in interviewing either
