Municipal Bylaw & Enforcement Section

The Municipal Bylaw & Enforcement Section has the first line responsibility for the investigation and enforcement of the City of Medicine Hat Bylaws and various Provincial Statutes, Document Service and Fingerprint Processing.  The Provincial Statutes currently enforced by the section include the Traffic Safety Act, Tobacco Reduction Act, Dangerous Dog Act, Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act, Animal Protection Act, Prevention of Youth Tobacco Use Act, and the Gaming and Liquor Act. Regular services are provided 7 days a week from 7:00 AM to 1:00 AM, however are changed as required to meet the needs of community or particular investigations. 

The Section consists of 9 full time members, including one Supervisor and has one casual member.  In 2008 members attended 9106 investigations, resulting in 4286 warnings and 7224 charges.  Section members initiated 2323 investigations or 25.5 % of the total investigations.  Members also made 6823 document services and attempts during the year. 

The Supervisor of the Section is responsible for the development of policies and procedures, training, scheduling of manpower, recruiting, assigning of duties, supervision of section members and the supervision and coordination of contracted services related to parking enforcement and domestic animal control.
