With spring weather finally here there is an opportunity to at last do
some clean up around our homes and yards. While we attempt to beautify our
homes and properties by removing unwanted items and yard waste, it is
important to remember to properly secure loose loads on the way to their
disposal at the city landfill.
Each spring it is estimated that approximately 3,500 vehicles with poorly
secured loads leave litter along our city roadways. Debris can range from
boxes, leaves, papers, and shopping bags which are unsightly to larger items
that can create road safety hazards.
Both Bylaw 1805 and 1556 prohibit waste from being transported in a
vehicle unless it is covered and properly secured to prevent it from coming off
or out of the vehicle or trailer it is being transported in. Fines for failing to
cover your waste and littering start at $100.00.
To help remind city residents of this important step, for the week of May 19
to 24th the MHPS safety messaging trailer will be displaying the message "A
Secure Load is a Safe Load".

We Need Your Input:
Anyone interested in providing input on future safety messages to be displayed on the MHPS safety messaging trailer or identify road safety issues that are of concern to them are encouraged to provide their input here.
