School Safety Patrol

The AMA School Safety Patrol(TM) program has been operating in Alberta since 1937. Provincially more than 500 schools with approximately 17,000 patrollers participate in the program. The Medicine Hat Region has 17 schools; 10 in Medicine Hat and 7 in neighboring communities with approximately 500 patrollers.

In the entire history of the AMA School Safety Patrol, there has never been a serious injury or fatal pedestrian collision at a patrolled crosswalk. The success of the program is attributed to the hard work and dedication of all partners. The Medicine Hat Police Service is a valued partner and their commitment to the program has been outstanding. The SSP liaison officer provides support through his/her participation with training sessions, patroller of the month award recognition, leadership camps, program planning, public awareness and special events.

The AMA greatly appreciates the commitment and dedication of the Medicine Hat Police Service to traffic safety initiatives and to making our community a safer place for our children.
