- HOW BUSINESSES CAN PREVENT CRIME
There is no guarantee that you will not be the victim of a crime. But, there are some things you, as a business person, can do to make it harder for a criminal to hit your business and to make it easer for the police to catch them if they do.
Here are a few things to look for. These tips can help you prevent four of the most common crimes that victimize businesses - robbery, break and enter, check fraud, and shoplifting.
These preventative tips should be used as a checklist. You should take a tour of your establishment, using this checklist as a guide, and determine how easy it would be for a criminal to hit your business.
Preventative Tips:
1. Do not keep large amounts of currency on the premises. Post signs making it clear that you do not.
2. If your business is open at night, put up a sign saying something like, "This cash register has no more than $35.00 in it at any given time. At night all $20, $10, and $5 bills are locked in a safe. The clerk cannot open it."
